The study of soil mechanics in historical structures

In a recent radio interview broadcast on TXS PLUS and hosted by Valeria Ortega, our CEO, Igor Bravo, analyzed how the lack of soil mechanics studies has severely impacted various historical structures around the world.

During the conversation, iconic cases were presented that demonstrate the urgent need to implement technological tools to protect the structural health of buildings. Among the examples analyzed were:

  • The famous tilt of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
  • The tragic collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa.
  • Various recent structural collapses in the U.S.

Bravo explained how current technology in the fields of geotechnics and geomechanics, combined with the key expertise of specialists, has managed to stabilize many of these at-risk projects. However, he emphasized that every structure presents a unique challenge.

What really happened with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and why, despite its natural tilt, does it not fall over? We invite you to discover the technical details behind this mystery by listening to the full interview at the following link
